solid leather belt

solid leather belt

For the past few years my husband has been looking for a good quality, solid leather belt well made leather belt that will last for more than a year or two. The belts he has been wearing are leather, but are made of a thinner leather that doesn’t hold it’s shape well, and the holes get stretched beyond their original round shape. My branded belts for men husband had been looking for a hobby, so one day I suggested he take a look to see what the Tandy Leather Factory had in stock, and that he might be able to design his own custom made belt.

Well, he had a great time looking at all of the branded belts for men different leathers, dyes and belt buckles that the Tandy Leather Factory had in stock. He ended up buying their Embossed Western Floral Belt Blank, which is 1-1/2″ wide, and a good 3/16″ thick. This belt blank is made from full-grain cowhide, and as many western patterns, it is deeply leather stud belt embossed with a leaf and and vine design, which extends along the entire length of the belt. As the Tandy Leather employee explained, putting the belt together stockings and suspender belts for men was easy, you cut the belt to the desired length, punch holes with a special tool, dye the belt the desired color, and attach the buckle using the built in snaps. The Embossed Western Floral Belt Blank fits up to 42″ waists.

Tandy Leather has a nice selection of belt buckles from which to choose, my husband didn’t want anything elaborate, so he chose the Heel Bar Buckle 1-1/2″, which is a silver color, and is made of solid brass with a nickel plating. Unfortunately, the Gucci belts sales person in the Tandy Leather Factory store wasn’t very helpful or knowledgeable. solid leather belt He was “helping” my husband find the products he needed to make this belt, but let him buy the large punch, which was a BIG mistake. It nearly ruined the leather, making leather belt kits holes that were way too large for a belt! I was not happy. A small oval punch would have been the appropriate size needed.

The last product my husband needed was the dye to make the leather black, as he initially wanted a black colored belt. He purchased Fiebing’s Gucci belts for men Leather Dye, in UCMC Black. It is also available in 15 other colors. Since we don’t have a workshop, my husband went outside to dye the leather belt with the black dye. Good thing, because it had an awful smell that would have given me a headache. It smells like those permanent leather belts for buckles magic markers, quite offensive to my nostrils and sinus cavities. The dye was easy to apply, and you can solid leather belt either rub it on the leather, or use a roller to go over the top of the design, which allows the dye to remain on the surface and not get down into the grooves of the embossed design. This gives the belt a two tone color.

When my husband finished his belt, it turned out Gucci mens belts just the way he wanted (sans the one overly large oval shaped hole). He did have some problems cutting the end of the leather to the right size, because the leather was so thick. Making holes in the leather was also challenging. If you decide to make your own leather belt, I hope the solid leather belt Mens Gucci belts employee at the leather store are more helpful than the person who helped my husband. He is a novice, and had previously worked on only one leather project (but it was a kit and the pieces were pre-cut). Some expert buying advice Gucci belt would have made this project come out perfectly, instead of almost perfect. Still, my husband has a nice looking, very thick and well made leather belt, and with all of the supplies the price only came to $35.00. The hole punch is going back!
